Everybody has a different language. Most Americans speak English, but that doesn't mean that they use the correct English that everyone can comprehend and understand. Some people are raised to talk differently in certain settings with certain people. In public, I say "no ma'am" and "yes ma'am" to women. I don't care if it is a total stranger or if it is a family friend. I speak that way because it is how I was raised to communicate.
Amy's mother wasn't really speaking bad English. It was just the way she was taught. She didn't know how to put thoughts together in a correct sentence. Some people could understand her, while others could not. Everyone has a different way of speaking and writing. Depending on where you live, you may have an accent. It may be hard for other people to understand you if they live in a different area of the country. The "language" Amy's mother was speaking really wasn't "broken". I like to think that it was just real simple.

Twister--The Ending!
To be honest, I did not like to read neither one of these stories. I do not really know the reasoning of why we read these two stories. These two stories really did not have anything in common, other then family and seasons. I found that in both stories, the families both really cared for one another. They did not want anything bad happening to one another. Another similarity is the seasons. Both stories took place in the summer.
There were differences in these two stories: "The Lottery" and "The Storm". In "The Lottery", stoning occurred. I did not expect that at all. I honestly had no idea what was going on in this story until it came out and said that the woman was being stoned. It was very unpredictable to me. However, "The Storm" was quite predictable. You knew there was a storm coming, so you expected for the woman to behave like that. Everyone usually wants to get their clothes inside before it starts raining and will put a towel at the door if it starts to leak. A mother would also be worried about her two kids if they were at the story. The similarities were harder to recognize than the differences.

Courage of a Blind Girl
Alice was such a beautiful, outgoing girl when she was little. She was very confident in herself and wanted to do everything with a little "spunk". She always gave "spunk" when she did things. She loved to give a playful attitude. That all changed in one day.
When she got shot by a BB gun, her whole world changed. She lost all of her self-confidence in herself. She hated the way she looked now. She never did anything the same. She always hid her face so no one could see her terrific scar. All of her smartness disappeared. It was like she didn't care what happened around her.
That all changed when she had her little girl. Her little girl saw how beautiful she was and admired her eye. When her daughter told her that she had a whole world in her eye, Alice's world lit up again. She gained her confidence back totally.

Animal Cruelty? Get both sides of the story!
In this community, people rage about animal cruelty. Well I will let people know the other side of the story. I am not afraid to speak up about animals. Yes, there are people out there who abuse animals for no reason and who really do not take care of their animals. Some people though, do take care of their animals, and the animals' ribs and hip bones are showing. Here's a couple reasons why they are showing.
The first reason is because they are old! I had a horse one time, a 34 year old Thoroughbred mare. We fed her every day twice a day with additional hay. You could count every rib on her body. You cannot do hardly anything to old animals whose bones are showing. Another reason why bones may be showing is because their breed is shaped that way. A Jersey milk cow's hip bones stick up tremendously. There is nothing you can do about it. Everyone needs to take in consideration different aspects of that animal before they go and turn that person in.
People don't understand the doings of other people. If a 1,5000 pound animal runs you over or steps on your toes, what would you do? I would hit them to make it move off of me. I don't want to be stepped on. That's not abuse; that example is trying to get yourself respect from that animal. One slap on the neck is going to hurt your hand more than it'll hurt the animal.
Around here, people just assume that the horse is being abused or not getting taken care of properly. Those people do not know both sides of the story. The other side of the story is very helpful in this kind of incident. When you train an animal, you have to get rough with them. They have to learn.

ObamaCare..For Everyone?
Obama Care is a health care policy Obama made to "help" every American out. The health care forces all Americans to buy a health care policy. The main goal of Obama Care is to make sure every United States citizen receives a very affordable health insurance. I, personally, am against the Obama Care. Why should we, the US citizens, have to pay more taxes on a policy that Congress did not even take the time to read. So what if it was about two thousand pages, still read so you know what your letting your country get into. Another reason why I am against the policy is because it will bring the salary down for all health care professions. I am working towards a BSN-RN degree. I was at the NEA hospital shadowing when I first learned about this wreck in society.
This policy has very many negative aspects and very few postive ones. The negative aspects really over weighs the positive aspects, which shows you how bad this policy is. One negative aspect is that everyone's taxes are going to increase. Nobody wants to pay extra taxes for someone they do not even know. Even though Obama may have said that you could keep your existing health care plan if wanted, that is not always the case. Certain provisions in the Obama Care plan will probably let existing insurance be dropped. A positive aspect is that everyone, even the poor, can carry an insurance plan. That is pretty much the only positive aspect that I can grasp from tthe Obama Care plan.

Just an American Girl Wanting Her American Ways!
While some people are of different ethnic groups, they are still born in the United States. Do these people practice both cultures or just one? Elizabeth Wong had was forced to practice both cultures. Wong explained to whoever read the article, how hard and complicated it was to practice both cultures: the United States and China. The article was first publicized in the Los Angeles Times, where she lived. Wong lived a very impressive life, even if she had no choice to.
I believe that Wong is a very good role model to young children. This article shows how mature she is with her life. When other children would be playing, Wong and her brother would be going to school. It was like they had to live in two different lives. It kind of surprised me when the article says the mother would drag the children to school herself. The parents must have really wanted Wong and her brother to learn part of the Chinese culture.
Wong had a lot of memories from the Chinese school she attended. She explains the scenery that she would see every day on the way to school: the high wire fence and the hilly landscape. She also explained that the gym smelled like "Chinese medicine." She explained that smell as if it were a dirty closet. She remembered what the class, as a whole, would say when the teacher entered the classroom, "'Sing san ho.'" When she was allowed to quit Chinese school, she was happy at first. She still thought of herself as an American. I think she got a little upset though, as the years went on.

Honesty is the Key!
Academic integrity should be a part in each and every school. Academic integrity is the avoidance of any misconduct with academics. If you see or hear about someone misusing material, turn them in! Why let someone get a grade for something they didn't even complete? It is his or her own fault for being dishonest.
There are many forms of misconduct with academics. One could cheat, plagiarize, lie, be dishonest, and simply not cite their sources. With any work you complete, cite your sources. It is that easy. Students lie about the work they turn in often. If you know they cheated or plagiarised, or even paraphrased, let the instructor know. The instructor has the right to know because catching this kind of behavior is his responsibility.
Academic integrity is very important in schools. It helps the lazy people and procrastinators get the grade they deserve. Do not be afraid to let the instructor know when someone is being dishonest about their paper. Most of the time, all you have to do is cite your sources in order to get the correct grade. Homework can be that easy without cheating.
